There’s a lot to enjoy about Michigan, and perhaps it’s best known for things like college football and cherry festivals, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. This is actually a state that’s packed with some of the most breathtaking views you’ll ever see, no matter whether your preference is for rolling sand dunes, beautiful lakes, or perhaps rugged cliffs and mountains, for example.
But where can you go to see the very best of the best when it comes to views in Michigan? Keep reading to find out!
Sleeping Bear Dunes
If you want a view that’s literally going to take your breath away, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is the place to be—climb to the very top of the dunes and you’ll see miles and miles of sand, deep blue waters, and a horizon that stretches as far as the eye can see (which is a very long way indeed).
And the best thing to do when you’re here is to wait for sunset because seeing that take place over Lake Michigan is a real treat, and it’s really one of the most magical views in the state. As a bonus, if you’re feeling adventurous you could even try the Dune Climb, but be warned—it’s definitely a workout!
Mackinac Bridge
Spanning five miles across the Straits of Mackinac, the Mackinac Bridge is a wonder of engineering, but as well as that (which is impressive on its own), it’s also where you can get some of the best and coolest views in Michigan.
When you drive across, you’ll see panoramic views of Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, as well as some fascinating small islands dotted around in the distance. And if you get there when it’s time for the annual bridge walk, you’ll even be able to see it all on foot, which is the best option of all as you’ll be able to slow down and take it all in.
If you want to experience Mackinac’s waters up close, you might want to check out fishing boats for sale in Michigan—after all, there’s really nothing better than seeing the bridge and the rest of the views from the middle of the lake as well as the other side.
The Porcupine Mountains
They’re quite well hidden and tucked away in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, but once you finally get to see the Porcupine Mountains (also known as the Porkies), you’ll see some of the best and most underrated views in the Midwest—now that’s got to be worth taking an extra trip for.
Go to the Lake of Clouds overlook, and from there you’ll see a stunning expanse of forest, water, and sky all blended together to give you a view you’re never going to forget. The best time of year to go is in the autumn because of all the amazing colors around you, although to be fair, there’s no bad time of year to visit this fantastic place that feels unreal but really does exist.
