It’s called Los Suenos, and it’s located in Costa Rica, around a 1.5 hour drive from San Jose. It’s an increasingly popular vacation destination, especially among travelers from the United States, and as you’ll see in this post, it’s not hard to see why. It ticks pretty much every box that someone seeking sunshine, adventure, and relaxation could ask for.

It Offers Perfect Weather
Costa Rica’s climate is divided into categories: the dry season, which runs from December to April; and the green season, which runs from May to November.
The dry season is when the weather really excels, but it can also be worthwhile visiting during the green season. Unlike other destinations in this area, the rain isn’t debilitating. It tends to just rain for a while in the afternoon/evening, with everything around that period being pretty perfect, weather-wise. The sea stays warm year-round, too, which means you can enjoy water activities no matter when you’re visiting.
There’s World-Class Sport Fishing
Like fishing? Then Los Suenos is your place. This corner of Costa Rica offers some of the best sport fishing on the planet. There are plenty of Los Suenos fishing charters available, too, which makes it easy to get out on the water and try your hand at catching marlin, sailfish, and dorado. The peak period for fishing in Los Suenos is from December to April, though charters run year-round and there’s always something to catch.
Not that you necessarily need to be passionate about fishing to enjoy this experience. The views from the water can be exceptional, and simply watching while others fish can be fun.
The Beaches Are Divine
If you know anything about Costa Rica, you’ll know that it has some world-class beaches, and Los Suenos is no different. Playa Herradura, which is located near the resort, is a gorgeous, calm beach that is ideal for sinking yourself into the sand or going for a refreshing dip. Other nearby beaches include Mirador La Pita and Playa Mantas, which are a little bit quieter and have incredible spaces for watching the sunset.
Outstanding Nature Adventures
We said above that Los Suenos offers a little bit of everything, and we weren’t kidding. Not only does it have great beaches, great fishing, and world-class amenities, but it also boasts some truly spectacular natural environments. Carara National Park, a world-famous birdwatching destination, is around a 25-minute drive away, while Playa Hermosa offers a chance to see baby sea turtles making their way into the ocean.
It does all these things while still being highly accessible. It’s 90 minutes from the airport, English is widely spoken, and there’s world-class infrastructure. It is, as many have found out, pretty much the ideal destination.
