Indulge in the Global Wonders of the UCSC Arboretum

I recently had the opportunity to visit the University of California, Santa Cruz Arboretum during a business trip to the area. If you’re planning a visit to Santa Cruz and love gardens, nature walks, or rare plants, the UCSC Arboretum is a must-see destination. Located on the University of California, Santa Cruz campus, this unique botanical garden offers a global plant experience without leaving the Central Coast.

What Is the UCSC Arboretum?

The UCSC Arboretum & Botanic Garden is a 135-acre living museum specializing in Mediterranean climate plants from around the world, including South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and California. With a mission rooted in conservation, research, and education, the Arboretum is more than just a garden—it’s a place where science meets beauty.

Why Visit the UCSC Arboretum?

1. Explore Global Plant Collections

The UCSC Arboretum is home to one of the largest collections of Australian plants outside of Australia. You’ll also encounter rare South African proteas and nodding pinchusion, New Zealand hebes, and native Californian species thriving in their natural habitats.
